Important information

In the event of a discharge, the State of New Jersey requires you to take prompt action to minimize environmental risks. Regardless of the discharge quantity, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) must be notified by calling the toll free hotline (1-877-927-6337). The NJDEP will assign a case number and send an information package to help you comply with the environmental regulations.

How do I get a “clean bill of health”?
In order to obtain final state closure of a cleanup, a “No Further Action” letter is required from the NJDEP’s Voluntary Cleanup Program. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) must first be submitted to the NJDEP in order to receive the “No Further Action” letter.

The MOA is a written agreement established between the NJDEP and the responsible party who wishes to voluntarily investigate and clean up all or part of a contaminated site. The MOA requires that the work completed at the site adhere to the requirements of the NJDEP’s Technical Requirements for Site Remediation (NJAC 7:26E) and that reports and related documents, generated in support of cleanup activities, be submitted to the NJDEP for review and evaluation.
