Situation prior to Firstech Environmental's involvement
The client was in the middle of what appeared to be an endless series of groundwater sampling events within a number of groundwater monitoring wells present at the site. The groundwater investigation at the site was initiated following the removal of a number of underground storage tanks and the discovery of a gasoline discharge. The client did not see any progress with the project and was concerned that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) required groundwater-sampling events would never end.
Firstech Environmental's response
Firstech Environmental completed a free evaluation of the information for the site and provided the client with a scope-of-work designed to direct the project toward obtaining a “No Further Action” letter from the NJDEP. Firstech Environmental identified the presence and limits of areas of impact on the site and, based on this information, designed and implemented an aggressive, cost effective remedial strategy to eliminate the sources of groundwater contamination. The remediation was completed without affecting the regular business activities at the site.
Current status
The source areas on the site have been completely remediated and significant decreases in groundwater contaminant concentrations are being documented. Firstech Environmental successfully petitioned the NJDEP to reduce the number of monitoring wells to be sampled and the frequency of groundwater sampling events (currently once per year). Firstech Environmental anticipates a NJDEP approval for an unconditional “No Further Action” for the site in the near future.
